What we do after a Front Range storm

Front Range weather is rough on roofs. A single afternoon can bring hail, microbursts, downed branches, and driven rain — and the damage isn’t always visible from the ground. Green Slate Roofing & Siding works with Denver-area homeowners and property owners to inspect storm-damaged roofs, document what we find, and coordinate the repairs that actually get the roof back into a sound, watertight condition.

Inspection-first approach: we don’t pressure a replacement on a roof that still has life in it, and we don’t under-scope a roof that’s past saving. The goal is a clear, photo-documented scope of work you can act on.

What storm damage actually looks like

Not every storm leaves obvious damage. Knowing what to look for helps you decide whether an inspection is worth booking.

  • Hail strike marks. Granule loss, soft spots in the asphalt mat, bruising, and broken seal strips. Hail also dents soft metals (gutter aprons, vents, flashing) — we use those as indicators when shingle damage is borderline.
  • Wind damage. Lifted, creased, or missing shingles — especially on the windward slope and at field-to-edge transitions. A creased shingle has lost its seal even if it’s still in place.
  • Impact damage. Tree limbs, blown debris, ice and snow buildup. Visible punctures are obvious; what we watch for are the secondary impacts that loosened nearby fasteners.
  • Accelerated wear. A roof that was already nearing end-of-life often fails faster after a major storm event. Worth checking even when the storm felt mild.

Our inspection process

  1. Schedule. Free inspection visit. We come out, walk the roof, and document conditions on the ground, on the roof deck, and (where accessible) in the attic.
  2. Document. Photos of every relevant condition — field shingles, valleys, penetrations, soft-metal hits, gutter and downspout condition, interior moisture signs. The photo record stays with the file.
  3. Report. A written scope explaining what we found and what the recommended next steps are — spot repair, larger repair, or replacement.
  4. Decide. You decide whether to move forward. If the damage qualifies for an insurance restoration claim, we provide the photos, scope, and measurements your carrier will ask for — the claim itself stays between you and your carrier.

Repair coordination & documentation

We coordinate the actual roof work. That means scoping the repair, ordering materials, managing the install crew, and walking the finished job with you. What we don’t do is speak for you with your insurance carrier or position ourselves as your representative on the claim. Do you charge for a storm-damage inspection?
No. Storm-damage inspections are free. If we don’t find anything that needs repair, we’ll tell you.
How soon after a storm should I schedule an inspection?
Sooner is better — within a week or two, while the damage is still fresh and before any further weather events compound it. Most carriers also have a deadline for claim notice (often one year from the date of loss), so getting documentation in place early protects your options.
Are you my representative with the insurance carrier?
No. We provide the photos, scope, and measurements your carrier needs, and we coordinate with the field adjuster on the repair side. You and your carrier work the claim itself.
What if my roof is damaged but the insurance carrier denies the claim?
The roof still needs to be repaired or replaced for it to be sound and watertight. We can scope a paid repair or replacement separately from any insurance proceeds. You decide.
